The Best Laid Plans…

Musings from a busy mama

Welcome to My World January 3, 2008

My family is my life. Here are some facts…

Blake is 11. Is that officially preteen? I’m not so sure of the rules but he sure acts like it! He is an amazing kid who is currently obsessed with anything Japanese. He loves sushi, manga, Pokemon, Go and Naruto. He is also a budding herpetologist, a person who studies reptiles. Blake is an insatiable reader. I can’t keep enough books around to satisfy him. He has read all the books that interest him in our library. He is a great big brother to both of his brothers although he will freely admit that Lance annoys him regularly! Blake is a major homebody who prefers staying home to doing just about anything else. Unless it’s a trip to the museum or bookstore! He also loves to fish and his new year’s resolution was to spend more time fishing this year! And he refuses to cut his hair despite being mistaken for a girl 50% of the time!

Lance is 8. He is a super sweetie. A man after my own heart. He has decided to stay a kid much longer than Blake, which I love! Lance loves golf, he once told me that he is going to grow up to be a pro and win lots of money and build me a big house to live in. I like the way he thinks! Lance also loves to skateboard and ride his scooter and can be found catching toads in our backyard on any given day. One of his favorite things to do is wrap up his old toys and distribute them to the kids in the ‘hood. He’s also obsessed with Christmas and I’m sure he’ll grow up to be one of those old men who have their houses decked out and a whole room dedicated to the Christmas village he’s collected over the years. He begs me to buy him a Christmas tree for his room! Lance also loves to build things. He spent half the summer using scrap wood to create interesting creations on the front porch. He is also a terrific big brother who spends lots of time coming up with ways to entertain the youngest of our crew.

Miles is 3. He is too adorable. He is totally obsessed with Spiderman. He won’t wear regular clothes anymore, he will only wear Spiderman pajamas that look like a Spidey suit. He has a red and blue suit and a black suit. He also has various accessories such as a few masks, sunglasses, gloves, web blasters, shoes, a camera and a backpack. If he’s not dressed up as Spidey he is playing his other passion, firefighter. Sometimes he wears his Spidey suit with his firefighter outfit over it. And yes, we go out in public in said attire. And he’s usually in full character! People are usually amused by his outfit and play along. At times I really wish that he’d wear his street clothes, but he’s cute and I know he’ll grow waaaay to fast and I’ll miss this stage in his life. So I play along (I’m Mary Jane) and I try to savor the moment. Miles also has eczema (was severe, now just moderate), food allergies (too many to list but he’s anaphylactic to eggs, milk, peanuts and wheat), environmental allergies (his sweat, the cold, dust mites and furry critters) and he was recently diagnosed with eosinophilic esophogitis, basically an allergi reaction in his esophagus. He is a very demanding little guy who likes being catered to. He is so much fun and provides lots of entertainment for our whole family!

Husband Steve is thirty-something. He works very hard for our family in the IT industry. He is basically a computer networking brainiac. He recently published his first book as a co-author and is currently working on a new one. He loves to golf, was an avid skateboarder back in the day and is a football fanatic. He just lost 100 lbs and we are all very proud of him. He is a terrific daddy and his boys adore him!

I’m a thirty-something stressed out mama. I swear, I think I have adrenal burnout! Living with life threatening allergies and chronic conditions like eczema can take it’s toll on a mama. I homeschool my boys which I absolutely love. I’m not going to lie, though, it’s not always fun and games like SOME of the websites will lead you to believe! It’s tough but very very rewarding. Kinda like mommyhood:) I’m also a certified birth junkie, I teach natural childbirth classes and I’m looking forward to the day that I can attend births as a doula again. I love space and astronomy. My dad gave me my first meterorite last year! I love music and have become a guitar hero fanatic, although I don’t have much time to play. One day. Most of all I love being a mother. It has it’s ups and downs but I wouldn’t trade my life for the world!
